Groundwater Guardians
Desert Hot Springs, CA - US
Designated Since: 1995
Community Profile: A very unique
situation exists within the community of Desert Hot
Springs (DHS). A cold water aquifer supplies the
city's 15,000 residents with clean drinking water that
does not have to be treated. A hot water aquifer
provides the
city with
spas that
attract
people from
around the
world. The
hot water
table is
shallow
compared to
other desert
aquifers
with a water
table less
than 100
feet deep.
The aquifer
lies
underneath
some of the
most densely
populated
areas of the
city. DHS
uses
Groundwater
Guardian to
protect
their
groundwater
resources
through
public
awareness
and
education
programs.
