Desert Hot Springs is California’s “Spa City” and is frequented by thousands each year mostly for recreation and relaxation but many come for health reasons. In fact, “Spa” is actually a municipality of Belgium. This town is the origin of the word “spa” and features springs with water temperatures of 32 °C (90 °F). As the famed site of healing hot springs, Spa has been frequented as a watering-place since as early as the 14th century. Most experts would agree that the hot mineral water found in Desert Hot Springs rivals the waters found in Spa or in any other European spa city and few of them have comparable views to what we enjoy here.
Currently, Desert Hot Springs has over 20 Spas and each of them have overnight lodging for their guests who’d like to stay overnight. Most of these spas are small, boutique hotels where the owners are also your host or hostess. These spas range from 4 to 110 rooms each and from $60 - $675 per night so, as you can see, they cater to a wide cross section of clients. Most of these Spa/Hotels are really boutique hotels that have been renovated and revived in the last few years so they have all the creature comforts along with their unique character.
One of the oldest spas in Desert Hot Springs is Two Bunch Palms. In the 1990s it appeared in the movie The Player.
In 2008, two Desert Hot Springs spas were listed on Trip advisor’s list of top ten "Best Hidden Gem" spas: El Morocco Inn and Spa and the Living Waters Spa.
In 2009, two Desert Hot Springs spas were listed on Trip advisor’s list of top ten "Best Hidden Gem" and "Best Service" spas: Sagewater Spa, and the Living Waters Spa.
